This position serves as a vital engineering support pillar for the maintenance, repair, and new construction of post-delivery nuclear submarines and nuclear facilities at Subbase New London and the Shipyard. The role focuses primarily on mechanical and structural engineering, with limited electrical interface, ensuring the integrity and safety of critical naval assets.
Engineers in this role will develop technical work documents for trade execution, provide shipboard oversight, identify process improvements, and supervise nuclear operations and radiological training. The position requires active participation in the Nuclear Engineering Core Group and the Radiological Emergency Response Organization (RERO). Success in this role demands the ability to obtain and maintain specific qualifications under NAVSEA 389-0288 (Radiological Controls Manual) and NAVSEA 0989-062-4000 (Quality Manual).
You will collaborate closely with a diverse network of stakeholders, including Nuclear Operations, Nuclear Quality, Radiological Controls, and Navy Squadron personnel. Your work involves balancing technical documentation with on-site supervision, often requiring flexibility to support Shipyard production schedules through back shifts and weekend work. The environment is dynamic, requiring engineers to be highly motivated, capable of working independently, and proficient in communicating complex technical concepts to both trade workers and senior leadership.
