The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) serves as a critical leadership partner to the Store Manager, acting as the primary supervisor for customer service associates and designated hitters. This role is designed to groom future Store Managers by providing hands-on experience in managing the front end of the store, overseeing pharmacy operations, and driving overall retail profitability. The ESM assumes full responsibility for all store activities in the absence of the Store Manager, ensuring business continuity and the achievement of company deliverables.
In this position, you will lead a diverse team by managing recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline. Your day-to-day involves engaging directly with customers and patients to resolve complaints, model best practices, and build loyalty. You will also collaborate with external partners to drive community outreach and leverage data to make fact-based decisions that improve store performance. Whether managing cash control, overseeing inventory trends, or ensuring the safety and well-being of the team, the ESM is accountable for creating a culture of accountability and excellence.
As part of Walgreens, you will join a team dedicated to serving communities across the country. The Emerging Store Manager program is a strategic initiative to develop internal talent, offering a clear pathway to Store Manager leadership. You will work in close alignment with the Store Manager, District Manager, and Support Center to execute company strategy and foster a supportive, high-performing environment.
Candidates selected for this role are expected to complete the Store Manager learning and development program (LEAP) or Walgreens Leadership Essentials training within 12 weeks of their start date. Success in this role requires a commitment to continuous self-development, including maintaining a valid pharmacy technician license where required by state law. The program is designed to prepare you for potential promotion to Store Manager, which may involve relocation to a different store location.
