About the Role

As an Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Paraprofessional at the Crystal Lake Education Center, you will serve as a vital, contributing member of the special education team. This role exists to support academic programs designed by special and general education teachers, ensuring students with disabilities can access the curriculum and thrive in a positive learning environment.

In this position, you will work closely with students to enhance their success and independence. Your day will involve implementing Individual Education Program (IEP) adaptations and accommodations, such as taking notes, reading materials aloud, utilizing technology, and using organizational tools. You will facilitate interactions between students with disabilities and their classmates while supporting the development of individual communication, social, and functional skills.

A significant portion of the role involves providing direct, hands-on support to students with varying needs. This includes assisting with activities of daily living (such as eating, hygiene, and toileting), supporting mobility needs including lifting and transferring students, and implementing individual behavior plans. You will provide positive reinforcement, assist with self-regulation and de-escalation, and help students transition between settings when behaviors interfere with learning. Additionally, you may accompany students on school-related community outings, which could include driving a district vehicle.
