About the Opportunity

As a Driver Trainee, you will learn the essential functions of the Driver role, including the accurate and timely distribution of products to various customer locations. You will gain exposure to warehouse and other operational functions as part of the developmental process of becoming a McLane Driver.

McLane is offering a fully paid CDL-A School right here in Northfield, MN. This program provides the unique opportunity to start your journey with excellent pay and benefits while you train.

Program Details

Our fully paid training program is located on-site in Northfield, MN, and runs from Monday to Thursday for the last four weeks. To participate, you must obtain a CDL-A Permit prior to the class start. During the training phase, you will earn $23.50 per hour.

Upon completion and as a driver, you can expect average first-year earnings between $80,000 and $90,000, with a minimum guarantee of $65,000 per year. Benefits are available starting Day 1, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, FSA/HSA, and company-paid life insurance. Additional perks include a 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan after 90 days, paid holidays, vacation time, sick leave accrual, and an educational assistance program.

Day in the Life

You will train side-by-side with a Driver Trainer to acquire the skills necessary to perform essential job functions. Your day will involve maneuvering a tractor into position to attach a trailer and handling lines to secure it. You will operate the truck in a safe manner, complying with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.

Your responsibilities include inspecting tractor-trailer equipment for defects before and after trips, submitting DOT inspection reports, and operating the Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH) to document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions. You will ride and train with your Driver Trainer to various destinations, gaining knowledge of commercial driving regulations while observing skills such as starting the engine, approaching intersections, making turns, backing, and parking. You will also assist the Driver in unloading the trailer and delivering products into customer premises.
