Program Overview

McLane is investing in your future by offering a fully paid CDL-A School located in Northfield, MN. As a Driver Trainee, you will learn the essential functions of the Driver job, including the accurate and timely distribution of products to various customer locations. You will gain exposure to warehouse and other operational functions as part of the developmental process of becoming a McLane Driver.

The training program runs Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and takes place on-site in Northfield for the final four weeks. To participate, candidates must obtain a CDL-A Permit prior to the start of class. While in school and training, the pay rate is $23.50 per hour.

What to Expect

Upon successful completion of the training and receipt of your Class A CDL within six months, you will join a team dedicated to the "Work Safe, Home Safe" motto. Your safety and ability to perform your job and return home to your family are paramount, which is why all prospective teammates undergo a pre-hire screening process, including a background check and drug screen in accordance with applicable laws.

As a driver, you will partner with a Driver Trainer to acquire the skills necessary to maneuver tractor-trailers, inspect equipment, and ensure the secure transport of products. You will operate in a dynamic environment encompassing distribution centers, transportation departments, and customer facilities, often facing moderate noise, vehicle vibration, and varying weather conditions. The role involves regular and frequent travel, including overnight trips.

Benefits and Compensation

Drivers can expect an average first-year earning potential of $80,000 to $90,000, with a minimum guarantee of $65,000 per year. Additional perks include paid holidays, vacation time, sick leave accrual, and an educational assistance program.
