As a Driver Trainee, you will learn the essential functions of the Driver job, including the accurate and timely distribution of products to various customer locations, while gaining exposure to warehouse and other operational functions.

Program Details

McLane is offering a fully paid CDL-A School right here in Northfield, MN. This program provides a clear path to becoming a professional driver with a minimum guarantee of $65,000 per year and average first-year earnings ranging from $80,000 to $90,000.

Location: Northfield, MN Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 7am - 5:30pm

During the four-week on-site training period, you will earn $23.50/hour. A key requirement is obtaining a CDL-A Permit prior to the start of class. Upon completion, you will receive your Class A CDL within six months.

Day in the Life

You will train side-by-side with an experienced Driver Trainer to acquire the skills necessary to perform essential functions. Your day will involve maneuvering tractors to attach trailers, securing lines, and operating the vehicle safely in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. You will inspect tractor-trailer equipment for defects before and after trips, submitting DOT inspection reports as required.

Throughout your training, you will ride with your trainer to various destinations, observing and practicing skills such as starting the engine, approaching intersections, making turns, backing, and parking. You will also learn to operate the Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH) to document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions. Additionally, you will assist in unloading trailers and delivering products into customer premises, ensuring the secure transport of goods.
