This position offers a unique opportunity to develop proficiency in operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, while mastering essential non-driving duties. You will serve as a versatile team member on the dock, bridging the gap between road operations and ground logistics. Your day will involve a dynamic mix of driving, freight handling, and customer interaction, ensuring seamless movement of goods from pickup to delivery.
As a key link in the supply chain, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment, performing critical pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections. Your responsibilities extend beyond the cab; you will hook and unhook trailers, secure freight using various tools and supplies, and operate motorized equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks. The role demands attention to detail in documentation, compliance with hazardous material regulations, and the ability to verify placarding matches shipments.
Customer service is a core component of this position. You will communicate directly with clients to determine pick-up or delivery needs, provide leads for new business opportunities, and resolve issues related to delays or equipment problems. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you will adapt to varying operational needs, which may include performing road driver duties or freight handler tasks as required.
This role requires flexibility and resilience. You will drive day and night on all types of roads and in all weather conditions. The environment exposes you to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. The physical nature of the job involves lifting and carrying freight, bending, twisting, and climbing in and out of trucks, with hours that may vary based on operational demands.
Candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering the job classification. Applicants must also meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations, maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and demonstrate the ability to perform basic math and communicate effectively.
