This Engineering Technician II position is based in the District 2 office in Nash County, reporting to the District Engineer. The role is integral to the Division of Highways, focusing on the coordination of technical plan reviews for driveway permits, utility encroachments, subdivision design standards, and road addition packages.\n You will apply civil engineering principles and highway maintenance methods to evaluate construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures. The position requires the ability to document findings, take corrective actions, and establish positive communication lines between technicians, engineers, and contractors. A key aspect of the role is applying engineering judgment to plan interpretation while adhering to NCDOT standards and specifications.
The work environment is dynamic and often demanding. You will be required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all weather conditions. Field duties may involve exposure to high traffic volumes, working at heights over water or traffic, and climbing on bridge substructures and superstructures. The role also requires navigating steep and rough terrain and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
