SBP is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities shrink the time between disaster and recovery. We take a holistic approach to disasters by increasing readiness and resilience before they happen, and streamlining rebuilding and long-term recovery after.
Our work includes Building the Way Home for Disaster Survivors through Recovery Services in eight states across the Gulf South, serving the most vulnerable homeowners impacted by major disasters. We also Build Readiness and Resilience Through Local Partnership by supporting low-capacity, high-risk communities with training, consulting, and organizational capacity-building through a team of subject-matter experts and Resilience Fellows.
Joining SBP is more than just joining a workforce; it is about contributing to a mission where you can enact real change and make a difference in the lives of people impacted by disasters.
We are hiring an AmeriCorps Client Preparedness Coordinator to serve with the United Way of Lake & Sumter County Long-term Disaster Recovery Group for a 10-month term. This role is designed to help Lake & Sumter Counties become more prepared for disasters. As a localized disaster preparedness expert, you will execute community-wide preparedness engagements and work directly with clients to increase their knowledge and capacity to make informed disaster preparedness decisions.
You will serve as a bridge between the community and essential resources, collaborating with various organizations to assist individuals and families in recovering from disasters. Your day-to-day will involve delivering resilience trainings, conducting outreach to build partnerships, and customizing preparedness materials with local information. You will also support fundraising efforts and participate in special events, such as the September 11th Day of Remembrance and Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
Full-time members will serve 1,700 service hours over 10 months, typically working 43 hours a week from Monday to Friday. While the typical service week is weekdays, volunteer events often occur on Saturdays. Members will receive service- and site-specific training to prepare them for their role, including a required orientation. Training hours meet the requirements of 45 CFR §2520.50.
Members will be evaluated mid-year and at the end of the year, and are required to complete weekly/monthly data reports and bi-weekly timesheets in OnCorps.
