As the Director of Purchasing, you will lead the procurement strategy and purchasing operations for a national fastener manufacturer and distributor. This role is critical to the company's success, ensuring consistent supply, competitive pricing, and optimal inventory levels for manufacturing operations, distribution fulfillment, and OEM customer programs. You will secure high-quality fasteners, raw materials, and components at the best possible value while maintaining strong supplier relationships and supply chain resilience.
In this position, you will oversee a network of domestic and international suppliers, managing everything from sourcing and vendor management to contract negotiations. You will partner closely with sales, engineering, and production teams to support customer bids, ensure compliance with OEM specifications, and drive cost reduction initiatives. Your leadership will extend to developing the purchasing team, fostering a culture of accountability, and implementing best practices to improve workflows and efficiency.
This is a full-time, exempt position based in Birmingham, AL. While largely sedentary, the role requires the ability to walk long distances within the production facility, including over uneven surfaces, and the physical capacity to lift boxes and stand as necessary. The role demands adaptability to varying workloads, with hours that may fluctuate based on business needs. Travel is required for both pre-planned and last-minute business opportunities.
Candidates with a minimum of five years of experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in the fastener industry, and at least two years of team management experience are encouraged to apply. A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Business, Logistics, or Supply Chain is preferred, though an equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered.
