About the Company

iBynd Semsee operates a national, digital-first platform for wholesale commercial insurance, delivering real-time rate, quote, and bind capabilities. We are building the next stage of growth for the industry by combining technology with deep insurance expertise.

About the Role

The Director of Legal & Compliance will serve as the sole in-house legal authority, owning the company's compliance program and legal strategy as a full-time, individual contributor role reporting directly to the COO. This position is designed for an experienced insurance industry veteran ready to inherit a functioning program and elevate it to support rapid scaling.

You will take full ownership of the compliance framework across both iBynd and SEMSEE entities, maturing policies, training, and monitoring while ensuring our licensing footprint remains audit-ready in all operating states. Beyond regulatory oversight, you will lead the negotiation of carrier appointments, binding authorities, and complex vendor contracts, building the playbooks that allow the business to move quickly without sacrificing protection.

A significant portion of this role involves advising on the legal implications of our digital product, including privacy obligations under GLBA, AI/ML governance in underwriting, and data handling practices. You will partner with technology and product teams to embed legal requirements into new features from the outset, acting as a strategic partner who can distinguish between risks that require a stop sign and those that simply need a seatbelt.

Hiring Process

Candidates will be evaluated on their ability to operate as a sole practitioner in a fast-moving environment. The process includes:

  1. Initial screening to verify insurance industry experience and bar membership.
  2. Deep-dive discussion on compliance strategy and carrier relationship management.
  3. Assessment of commercial judgment and ability to navigate regulatory landscapes.
  4. Final interview with leadership to discuss culture fit and strategic vision.

Equal Opportunity

iBynd Semsee is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse workforce. We uphold the highest standards of employment practices in every jurisdiction we operate in, ensuring fair compensation in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and complying with all federal and state laws governing non-discrimination in employment practices.
