About the Role
This position serves as the top-level management classification for the Development Services Department, reporting directly to the City Manager. The role is designed to oversee, direct, and manage the full spectrum of the department's activities, including Planning, Inspection Services, and Housing programs. As the primary representative of City Council policies and programs, the incumbent provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager while coordinating assigned activities with other city departments and external agencies.
The position is critical for ensuring the efficient delivery of services that shape the city's growth and community well-being. The incumbent will manage the development and implementation of departmental goals, oversee the city's development review process, and direct complex regional planning studies. This role requires a leader who can interpret applicable laws and codes, develop neighborhood revitalization programs, and navigate sensitive community issues to support a balanced jobs/housing environment.
Working Environment
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment, though the role involves travel to various sites and potentially outside city boundaries to attend meetings.
