About Alfred University

Lighting the way for students since 1836, Alfred University is a unique leader founded on principles of social justice by liberal, independent thinkers who valued education for all citizens. As the second oldest coeducational college in the United States, it has a long-standing history of enrolling African American and Native American students and educating socially conscious individuals who make a difference in their professions and communities.

Today, Alfred University is a complex institution offering a full range of programs in the liberal arts and sciences, art and design, engineering, business, education, counseling, and school psychology. Nearly 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students live, learn, and play on a 232-acre campus located in an idyllic, creative valley in Western New York. The University remains responsive to the needs of contemporary society while staying true to the spirit of its origins.

About the Role

The Director of Development provides strategic leadership and daily oversight of the University's major gifts program. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Philanthropic Relationships, this role is designed to secure major gifts and advance institutional priorities through the development and implementation of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

In this position, you will directly supervise the Relationship Manager/Major Gifts team while managing a personal portfolio of high-capacity prospects. You will be personally responsible for designing and implementing strategies for a portfolio of 125-150 prospects, conducting substantive donor contacts, and qualifying new major gift prospects. The role requires close collaboration with the AVP to create opportunities for leadership engagement with prospects and involves attending and occasionally hosting events for acquisition, cultivation, and stewardship.

This position requires travel and includes evening and weekend responsibilities to ensure the highest level of donor engagement and program success.

Equal Opportunity

Alfred University actively subscribes to a policy of equal employment opportunity and will not discriminate against any employee, student, or applicant because of race, age, sex, color, sexual orientation, gender identification or expression, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry, national origin, marital status, genetic information, military or veteran status, domestic violence victim status, criminal conviction status, political affiliation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
