About the Role

The Direct Support Professional I serves as a vital partner to a team of skilled professionals and families, dedicated to delivering services that are family-driven, youth-guided, trauma-informed, and culturally competent. The core mission of this position is to help youth reach their full potential by creating a safe, nurturing, and peaceful environment. In this role, you will provide the opportunities necessary for the successful development of essential life and social skills for the youth and families you serve.

Day in the Life

Your day involves providing direct supervision and care, assisting individuals with daily living skills while strictly adhering to program standards and safety protocols. You will be responsible for developing and monitoring treatment objectives, assessing the effectiveness of individual care plans, and executing a wide variety of support tasks ranging from transporting youth to medical appointments to managing daily housekeeping duties.

A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to building professional relationships with peers and families to support individual development. You will monitor emotional and behavioral status, document findings, and communicate effectively with the treatment team to ensure all decisions are made in the best interest of the youth. You will also be trained to recognize escalated behaviors and apply crisis prevention and intervention strategies, including verbal de-escalation and, when necessary, physical interventions to reduce risk.

Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED. Successful applicants will need to complete Approved Medication Administrative Personnel (AMAP) training within one year of hire and obtain CPR certification within 60 days. A valid New York State driver's license with a clean driving record is required for transportation duties.
