Under the direction of a Digital Forensic Supervisor, the Digital Forensic Examiner (DFE) serves as a critical technical resource for criminal investigations. This role involves conducting forensic examinations of digital evidence, operating either within a dedicated laboratory environment or directly on-scene during active law enforcement operations. The position demands a high degree of mobility, as on-scene examinations may require frequent in-state travel.
Beyond evidence analysis, the DFE provides direct technical support to investigators and attorneys within the Office of the Illinois Attorney General. The role also extends to assisting various law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies across the state with complex investigations and prosecutions.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to professional development, specifically the ability to obtain training and certifications required to qualify as an expert witness in Illinois courts within one year of employment. Success in this role also hinges on maintaining satisfactory working relationships with colleagues and the public, alongside consistent attendance.
This position requires in-office attendance. The role is designed for individuals who can effectively bridge the gap between technical digital forensics and the practical needs of the legal and law enforcement communities.
