Carilion Children's is seeking a Developmental Pediatrician or Developmental Pediatrician Section Chief to join and help lead our growing Child Development Clinic. This statewide resource is supported by the Maternal and Child Health Services Title V Block Grant through the Virginia Department of Health.
This position is being recruited to support significant program growth driven by increasing regional need, expanded partnerships, and Carilion's commitment to improving access to developmental and neurodevelopmental care for children across Virginia. The role is based at Carilion Children's Tanglewood Center, a pediatric multidisciplinary center of excellence serving as a hub for integrated pediatric subspecialty care, therapy, and family-centered services.
You will join a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team including developmental pediatricians, nurse practitioners, clinical psychologists, social workers, pediatric nurses, speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, and education specialists. Our program is in a purposeful growth phase, expanding capacity to meet rising demand for evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, and ongoing management of autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, developmental delays, NICU follow-up needs, complex neurodevelopmental conditions, and behavioral and learning challenges.
Carilion Children's serves as western Virginia's primary pediatric referral center, anchored by a 60-bed NICU/intermediate nursery, 8-bed PICU, 24-bed pediatric inpatient unit, Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, a dedicated pediatric emergency department, and 19 pediatric subspecialty clinics with robust ancillary services.
Faculty appointments are available through the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM), with research opportunities in collaboration with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI) and other Virginia Tech partners.
For candidates with 5+ years of experience, the Section Chief role offers an opportunity to lead during a pivotal expansion period. As demand increases statewide, this leadership role is essential for shaping the future of developmental health services across western Virginia and beyond. The Section Chief will guide strategic program growth, enhance access and optimize clinical operations, mentor faculty, staff, and learners, expand community and statewide partnerships, and advance quality improvement and research initiatives.
