With more than 25,000 employees, including third-, fourth-, and even fifth-generation shipbuilders, HII's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia. We are the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. Anchored in our rich, 135-year history, we collaborate together at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of the most powerful and survivable naval ships in the world.
Deck electricians are largely responsible for the installation, repair, overhaul, and operational testing of the electrical systems aboard the ship. You will work on one of the many electrical systems aboard the ship, including lighting, power distribution, communication, or navigation. This role requires the ability to read and interpret complex electrical and electronic schematics.
The job is unique in that it requires an individual who can quickly switch between differing tasks ranging from lighting and receptacle hook-ups to installing wire way racks, rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, and performing preventative maintenance. You may also be called upon to weld studs for mounting equipment. As a member of our team, you will work in a supportive and welcoming environment where safety and well-being are prioritized.
We build the world's most powerful, survivable naval ships and defense technology solutions that safeguard our seas, sky, land, space, and cyber. Recognized as one of America's top large company employers, we are a values and ethics-driven organization. Working at HII is more than a job—it's an opportunity to build a future. We offer a diverse workforce and valuable educational and training programs for continual career growth at every stage of your career.
