About the Mission

This engagement supports Mayo Clinic's strategic initiative to modernize high-performance data movement for research. The goal is to establish a secure, scalable Globus SaaS environment that facilitates seamless data exchange between Mayo Clinic and external research partners while maintaining strict adherence to healthcare compliance standards (HIPAA, NIST) and internal security frameworks (ISA, BAA).

About the Role

You will serve as the primary architect and operator for the Globus platform, bridging the gap between complex infrastructure requirements and research user needs. This role is critical for finalizing the deployment of Globus Connect Server v5 within the Google Cloud Platform Data DMZ and ensuring the system is hardened, secure, and ready for production use.

Your day-to-day will involve orchestrating the final configuration of storage gateways, validating end-to-end data transfer workflows across the Service Connector boundary, and managing identity flows via Entra ID. Beyond technical deployment, you will act as the bridge between the platform and the research community, onboarding initial user groups and providing Tier 1/2 support to troubleshoot transfer failures and optimize performance for large-scale data movements.

A significant portion of this role focuses on knowledge transfer. You will document comprehensive runbooks and operational playbooks, translating technical concepts into clear procedures for the Enterprise Interfaces team. This ensures that Mayo Clinic achieves long-term self-sufficiency in managing the platform, including disaster recovery planning and ongoing maintenance.

Hiring & Collaboration Context

This position requires close collaboration with the Architecture team, Storage/Infrastructure team, and Research stakeholders. You will navigate Mayo Clinic's governance and change management processes to implement platform changes, coordinating with Azure DevOps repo owners for configuration state management. The role also involves liaising with the Globus vendor support team (University of Chicago) for escalated issues and participating in orientation sessions to align operational procedures with vendor best practices.
