About the Role
This position serves as a critical bridge between complex data infrastructure and research operations. The Data Engineer will support the implementation, configuration, and operationalization of the client Clinic's Globus Managed File Transfer (MFT) platform within a GCP-hosted Data DMZ environment. The role focuses on managing large-scale, secure data transfers while maintaining platform health, optimizing performance, and ensuring strict compliance with security and governance standards such as HIPAA, NIST, and Zero-Trust.
As a hybrid Data Engineer and Systems Administrator, you will work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to establish operational processes. You will be responsible for deploying Globus Connect Servers, configuring storage gateways, and managing data transfer workflows. Beyond technical execution, the role involves onboarding research users and providing Tier 1/2 operational support, ensuring that data initiatives are delivered consistently across cross-functional teams.
Day in the Life
Your day will involve a mix of infrastructure management and data analysis. You will assemble large, complex data sets to meet functional business requirements and perform deep-dive investigations to explain results and make recommendations. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to troubleshooting across infrastructure layers, resolving data issues, and ensuring timely query resolution.
You will also act as a consultant to various departments, translating business requirements into technical data solutions. This includes researching new data sources, improving data management processes, and conducting periodic data quality reviews. The role demands a proactive approach to identifying improvement opportunities, from error detection to root cause analysis, while collaborating with data analysts, scientists, and software developers to evolve the data architecture.

Requirements
