U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) offers an exceptional opportunity to join an elite team of highly trained professionals dedicated to protecting America. As part of the Department of Homeland Security workforce, you will serve a mission defined by camaraderie, pride, and purpose: safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity. You will be a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession, working to secure American interests and protect the American people.
As a Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO), you will be part of a workforce of over 60,000 individuals. Your day-to-day work involves enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws while facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel. You will conduct inspections of individuals and conveyances, determine admissibility for entry into the United States, and prevent the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods, including the smuggling of drugs and contraband.
You will be asked to provide a preference for one of many mission-critical locations across the United States, including ports of entry in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Texas, Vermont, and Washington. While you will indicate your preferred location, final assignments are based on operational and mission requirements and critical agency hiring needs. If a preferred location does not have vacancies at the time of your final offer, you may be offered a duty location in another geographic area within the United States.
Selected candidates will undergo rigorous formal training. This begins with a paid pre-academy orientation of approximately two weeks at your home port, followed by a 101-day training program at the CBP Field Operations Academy in Glynco, GA. The academy covers basic law enforcement skills, immigration laws, firearms training, cargo examination, and physical fitness. Successful completion of the Academy is required for this position. Additionally, candidates assigned to specific locations, such as the southern border, Miami, or Puerto Rico, must complete and pass an online Spanish training program.
