Facilities Operations and Maintenance supports the university's strategic mission by professionally maintaining safe, functional, and attractive facilities and grounds, while also providing quality support services to the campus community.
As a Custodian Leadworker, you will perform heavy-duty cleaning and maintenance work in an assigned area while coordinating the efforts of other custodians. This role is designed to ensure the highest standards of facility operation, blending routine repetitive tasks with specialized procedures for equipment and materials.
In this position, you will lead others in deep cleaning, sanitizing, and polishing fixtures, as well as managing complex floor care including stripping, sealing, and waxing. You will operate industrial-grade machinery such as scrubbers, floor buffers, and snow blowers, performing routine maintenance on this equipment. Beyond cleaning, you will set up and prepare spaces for special events, including arranging furniture, bleachers, and audio/visual equipment, while providing direction to patrons.
You will also serve as a safety advocate, ensuring secure building conditions, reporting hazards, and training staff on proper and safe custodial practices. The role requires a blend of physical labor, technical knowledge of cleaning compounds and equipment, and the ability to make limited decisions within established procedures.
