The Facilities Management and Capital Planning department manages and maintains 62 state-owned courthouses and 42 leased facilities across ten counties in the Commonwealth. The department is dedicated to effective property management, facility operations, and renewal, ensuring the delivery of quality customer service to support the administration of justice.

About the Role

As a Custodian in Lawrence, you play a vital role in keeping court facilities clean, orderly, and accessible for the public and staff. This position is essential to the daily operations of the Trial Court, ensuring that offices, restrooms, and common areas are maintained to high standards. You will work a scheduled shift from 2 PM to 10 PM and may be required to work outside regular hours during emergencies or to address urgent maintenance needs.

Your day involves a variety of custodial tasks, including dusting, wet mopping, vacuuming, and operating specialized equipment like KAIVAC and IMOP machines. You will also handle floor care such as stripping and waxing, manage waste removal, and perform seasonal duties like mowing lawns and shoveling snow. Beyond cleaning, you will assist with minor maintenance, secure building entrances, and report any irregular activities or conditions requiring major repairs to your supervisor.

Hiring Process

This is a Union position designated under the collective bargaining agreement with OPEIU, Local 6. All new hires must start at the entry-level rate for this role.
