The Technology Education and Engineering Teacher at GW Middle School is dedicated to developing students' academic skills through a quality, competency-based program. This 10-month, 195-day licensed position reports directly to the School Principal and serves as a vital link between district-approved curriculum and student growth.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to teach a dynamic range of courses tailored to specific grade levels, including Introduction to Technology (6th Grade), Inventions and Innovations (7th Grade), and Technological Systems (8th Grade). The position goes beyond standard instruction; it involves implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs that address specific educational needs while documenting student progress and outcomes.
Your day will be a blend of classroom instruction, curriculum development, and community engagement. You will design and update lesson plans, course assignments, and assessments that cater to diverse learning styles and academic objectives. A significant part of your role involves fostering leadership and civic skills through Career and Technical Student Organizations, as well as organizing career-related activities like industry speakers and field trips.
You will also collaborate with administration to facilitate industry certification testing for students. Beyond the classroom, you will manage student behavior to ensure a safe learning environment, counsel students to promote optimal performance, and maintain clear communication with parents, guardians, and affiliating agencies regarding student progress and achievements. Adherence to school policies and safety protocols, including reporting incidents to maintain student safety, is a core responsibility.
Candidates must hold a valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching Provisional, Collegiate, or PostGraduate License with an endorsement in Technology Education, or be eligible to obtain it upon hiring. A Bachelor's degree in Technology Education, Engineering, or STEM is required, with a Master's degree preferred. Additionally, candidates must possess experience in technology, engineering, or related fields.

Salary and step placement are determined by The ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale. This is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
