About the Position
The Oswego Community Unit School District No. 308 is seeking a dedicated Transportation/Crossing Guard to support student safety at Long Beach Elementary School. This role is vital to ensuring that school-age children can navigate public streets safely and securely as they travel to and from campus.
The Role
As a Crossing Guard, you will serve as a visible, safe adult presence for young children. Your primary mission is to direct and regulate vehicular and pedestrian traffic at specified intersections, using a hand-held stop sign, flashlight, and two-way radio to manage the flow of traffic effectively. You will exercise sound judgment to evaluate situations and make quick decisions, working independently with minimal supervision.
In this position, you will be the first point of contact for children who need assistance, providing a reassuring presence in all weather conditions. You will also remain vigilant for suspicious persons or vehicles, monitoring the area and reporting any unusual behavior or events to the security team and supervisors.
