Delaware Guidance Services for Children and Youth, Inc. (DGS) is the largest provider of outpatient behavioral health services to children and families in Delaware. As the only statewide not-for-profit outpatient behavioral health organization for children and adolescents accredited by JCAHO, we operate offices in Wilmington, Newark, Dover, Lewes, and Seaford. Our community-based service lines serve youth and families requiring intense therapeutic protocols, including our 24-hour statewide Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) which dispatches skilled crisis intervention clinicians to provide immediate care. In 2021, DGS clinicians provided over 54,000 direct care hours to children, youth, and families in Delaware. Over 93% of clients report improvement in their level of functioning following treatment.
Our client population is racially and ethnically diverse; 80% of our clients are Medicaid recipients and 90% have household incomes under $30,000. Under the supervision of the Crisis Program Manager, the Crisis Bed Therapist provides clinical behavioral health services to clients in the Crisis Bed Program while carrying a small outpatient caseload. This position is dedicated to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of youth admitted to the Crisis Bed Program who present with a wide variety of psychological and emotional problems, including aggressive behavior, suicidal ideation, and family conflicts.
The role involves providing individual, group, and family therapy, as well as crisis intervention using various treatment modalities. You will collaborate closely with the Crisis Bed Coordinator to maintain the highest clinical standards, conduct psychosocial assessments, and develop individualized discharge plans. A key part of this role is providing clinical consultation to Mental Health Technicians, Shift Supervisors, and the Crisis Bed Coordinator, while reviewing and signing their clinical documentation. You will apply solution-focused and trauma-informed interventions to build skills, address conflicts, and maintain safety within the Crisis Bed setting.
