About the Role
As a Cook in our Dining Services department, you will be the heart of our kitchen, responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving a wide variety of foodstuffs including soups, meats, vegetables, garnishes, and desserts. You will work under the guidance of the Sous Chef and/or Director of Dining Services to ensure all meals meet federal, state, and local standards as well as our internal policies.
Your day will involve reading menus to estimate food requirements, performing advance preparation tasks, and adjusting equipment controls to regulate temperatures for ovens, broilers, and steam kettles. You will prepare food according to specific recipes and preparation sheets, ensuring every dish is cooked to perfection. Throughout the meal service, you will conduct temperature checks, taste-test items for quality, and prepare food for delivery to various dining areas. You will also be responsible for batch cooking, maintaining accurate preparation records, and ensuring all food items are stored properly.
Safety and sanitation are paramount in your role. You will adhere strictly to safety and sanitation rules, including proper lifting and bending techniques, and demonstrate knowledge of fire safety procedures to assist with resident evacuation in the event of an emergency. You will work collaboratively with co-workers, following the established code of conduct and reporting any compliance or HIPAA violations as necessary.
Schedule
This position operates on a Monday through Friday schedule, including every other weekend, with shifts running from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
