The Lead Cook serves as a vital link in our Food Services team, reporting directly to the Food Services Manager. This position is designed to oversee the daily operations of the kitchen during assigned shifts, ensuring that every meal served is nutritious, high-quality, and consistent. Beyond food preparation, the Lead Cook acts as a mentor and leader, guiding junior cooks and client volunteers while maintaining the highest standards of safety and sanitation.
In this role, you will actively participate in the kitchen line, delegating tasks based on team skill levels and fostering a positive, productive environment. You will collaborate closely with servers and the Health & Wellbeing Director to ensure smooth service and address any client concerns regarding food presentation and quality. This position plays a critical role in supporting our mission by providing dignified, high-quality meals in a safe and respectful setting.
This role operates in a fast-paced, client-facing environment supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. Employees may encounter individuals with complex health, behavioral health, or substance use needs. All duties are performed in accordance with trauma-informed and safety protocols to minimize risk. The position requires frequent movement throughout program spaces and may involve exposure to infectious disease, though established procedures are followed to ensure safety.
