Northwest Youth Corps connects people with nature while impacting the lives of young adults. Our mission is to teach job skills, deliver education lessons, and accomplish meaningful service projects on public lands and in communities across the Northwest.
As a Conservation Crew Leader, you will lead, manage, and supervise a crew of five young adults through a 12-week, 24/7 immersive camping program. Based out of Eugene, OR, your crew will travel across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho to complete hands-on conservation projects.
This role is designed for well-balanced individuals who embody compassion, patience, and an inspirational attitude. You will facilitate daily lessons using our accredited outdoor education curriculum, covering environmental education, life skills, nutrition, health, and job readiness. Beyond the work, you will guide your crew through the rhythms of camp life, including grocery shopping, laundry, and recreational activities like hiking or visiting the ocean on weekends.
Leaders receive organizational support through weekly check-ins with field supervisors and activities led by outside facilitators. This seasonal position offers a unique opportunity to develop your own leadership skills while providing career pathways in natural resource management, youth development, and outdoor education.
The program runs from June 2 to August 14, 2026, following a training session from May 19-30. While project work typically occurs Monday through Friday, the crew stays together seven days a week. This is a fully immersive experience with no vacation time provided during the 12-week session.
Safety is the number one priority in everything we do. As a leader, you are directly responsible for the physical and emotional safety of your participants. This includes transporting the crew and equipment to and from worksites, often involving long-distance driving in NYC fleet vehicles. You will also be responsible for delegating responsibilities, maintaining crew discipline, resolving conflicts, and establishing crew morale.
