Northwest Youth Corps connects people with nature and impacts the lives of young adults through immersive service. Our mission is to teach job skills, facilitate education, and accomplish meaningful conservation projects on public lands across the Northwest.
As a Conservation Crew Leader, you will lead, manage, and supervise a crew of five young adults through a 12-week, 24/7 immersive camping program. You will be the face of the organization in the field, responsible for completing hands-on conservation projects and facilitating daily lessons using our accredited outdoor education curriculum.
This role is designed for well-balanced individuals who embody compassion, patience, and an inspirational attitude. You will work hard to deliver an impactful job skills and educational experience, while simultaneously developing your own leadership skills within a supportive organizational structure that includes weekly check-ins and facilitator-led activities.
Your week typically runs Monday through Friday, focusing on project work, education, and crew management. On weekends, the crew stays together for essential life skills like grocery shopping, laundry, and showering, as well as recreational activities such as hiking to waterfalls or visiting the ocean.
You will be directly responsible for the physical and emotional safety of your crew at all times. This includes transporting the crew and equipment to worksites, often driving long distances in fleet vehicles, and ensuring safe work practices and proper tool use. You will also delegate responsibilities, resolve conflicts, and maintain crew morale while implementing lessons on environmental education, life skills, nutrition, and job readiness.
Interested candidates should learn more about the program and submit their application via our career portal. For specific questions regarding the position, please contact Amanda Wallace, Oregon Program Manager, at AmandaW@nwyouthcorps.org.
