The University of Hawaii at Hilo (UH Hilo) is a public liberal arts and sciences university on the Island of Hawaii, recognized for its integration of cultural immersion and place-based research. As a comprehensive, regional campus within the ten-campus University of Hawaii system, UH Hilo offers high-quality undergraduate and select postgraduate education with distinctive strengths in marine science, geology, astronomy, and Hawaiian language revitalization. The university advances research and scholarship that support community needs, environmental stewardship, Indigenous knowledge systems, and workforce development priorities for the State of Hawaii.
At UH Hilo, we seek to cultivate an inclusive community of people with varied characteristics, ideas, cultures, and world-views where students, faculty, and staff celebrate difference and respect tradition. The Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) drives UH Hilo's efforts to stop, prevent, and remedy discrimination, ensuring a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work and learning environment.
The Confidential Advocate & Prevention Educator serves as a vital resource for the UH Hilo campus community, providing confidential support to students who may have experienced sex or gender-based discrimination. This role is dedicated to creating and implementing prevention educational programming while offering crisis response, advocacy, and referrals to student victims of gender-based violence, including sexual assault, interpersonal violence, stalking, and sexual harassment.
In this position, you will maximize student safety, retention, and success through policy and prevention education. You will design and implement culturally competent, intersectional prevention and bystander intervention curriculum tailored to the unique needs of the campus. The role involves assessing non-academic needs of students and making appropriate on and off-campus referrals to meet physical and mental health needs. You will support and advocate for student victims throughout the various stages of reporting and adjudicating complaints, ensuring equal access to the educational environment through interim measures and support services.
As a key partner to the university, you will develop working relationships with campus partners, key community stakeholders, and across the UH System. You will collect and report aggregate data to identify trends, evaluate the impact of education efforts on campus climate, and recommend best practices for policies and procedures pertaining to victim services. This role serves as a primary resource to administration, faculty, and staff regarding the University's responsibilities in the prevention and response to sexual and gender-based violence and misconduct.
