About the Team
Travis County Health and Human Services (HHS) serves the community under the guidance of the Commissioners Court. We address community needs through internal and external investments and services, striving to maximize quality of life for all people in Travis County. Our mission focuses on protecting vulnerable populations, investing in social and economic well-being, building a shared understanding of our community, and promoting healthy physical, behavioral, and environmental living.
The Research & Planning division is a small, collaborative team dedicated to building an efficient and effective service delivery system for human services. We balance individual initiative with feedback-rich, consultative practices, supporting our team members in learning, applying, and enhancing their skills through meaningful work and professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleConduct primary and secondary research to support health and human services projects
- check_circleProvide technical assistance and consultation on research methods and data analysis to teams
- check_circleDesign and conduct surveys and focus groups to assess community needs and program effectiveness
- check_circleDevelop and facilitate community planning processes and strategic planning initiatives
- check_circlePlan and implement competitive processes for social service investments and evaluate proposals
- check_circleEnsure work complies with federal, state, and local laws, codes, and professional standards
- check_circleWrite reports, briefs, and documents and present findings to officials and the public
- check_circleManage social service contracts including oversight, performance measurement, and evaluation
- check_circleAnalyze, mine, and visualize data to inform program planning and policy decisions
Requirements
- verifiedBachelor's degree in Planning, Business Administration, Public Policy/Administration, Government, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or related field AND 4 years experience
- verifiedOR Master's degree in Social Work, Planning, Public Policy/Administration, Government, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or social sciences AND 2 years experience
- verifiedExperience with social services/health and human services preferred
- verifiedExperience in data analysis, contract management, investment system planning, community planning, or performance measurement preferred
- verifiedKnowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, databases, statistical packages, GIS, and design software
- verifiedAbility to handle confidential health information per federal and state laws
- verifiedCriminal, Driving, Education, and Employment Background Checks Required
Nice to Have
Experience with social services/health and human services (may include work, volunteer, and/or life experience). Experience in one or more of the following: data analysis, contract management, investment system planning, community planning, performance measurement and evaluation.
