This position serves as a vital liaison dedicated to supporting the school district's initiatives to improve student achievement. The role is designed to foster and promote positive relationships between the district, students, parents, the broader community, and criminal justice agencies. Operating with significant independence, the employee reports directly to the Coordinator of Office Parent Engagement and exercises wide leeway in developing work methods to address complex educational and social challenges.
The core mission involves initiating parent involvement in decision-making opportunities that impact the school environment and instruction. This includes implementing evidence-based strategies to deepen parent understanding of the curriculum, specialized education services, and Individual Education Plans (IEPs), while emphasizing the critical importance of the home-school partnership in academic success. The role acts as a bridge, connecting students and families with essential personal, social, and educational services through a comprehensive community-wide referral system.
A typical day involves a dynamic mix of advocacy, coordination, and community engagement. The employee provides daily advocacy and mediation support to families and students, assisting in resolving conflict situations within the community. They work cooperatively with community, business, and agency leaders to develop programs that boost student attendance and participation.
The role also requires coordinating and hosting monthly meetings and professional development sessions for district staff, including Teacher Aides, Project Workers, and Home School Assistants. These sessions provide vital information and resources regarding family engagement and school climate. Additionally, the employee maintains close relationships with neighborhood associations and agencies, coordinates parent training programs on conflict resolution, and develops written and oral reports detailing findings, actions, and outcomes.
