This position serves as a vital liaison dedicated to supporting the school district's initiatives to improve student achievement. The role is centered on fostering positive, collaborative relationships between the district, students, parents, the broader community, and criminal justice agencies. Operating with significant independence under the supervision of the Coordinator of Office Parent Engagement, the incumbent exercises wide leeway in developing work methods to address complex educational and social challenges.
The core mission involves initiating and sustaining parent involvement in decision-making processes that directly impact the school environment and instruction. This includes implementing evidence-based strategies to deepen understanding of curriculum, specialized education services, and Individual Education Plans (IEPs), while championing the home-school partnership as a driver of academic success. The role acts as a bridge, connecting families with essential personal, social, and educational services through a comprehensive community-wide referral system.
A typical day involves a dynamic mix of advocacy, coordination, and community engagement. The employee provides daily advocacy and mediation support to families and students, often assisting in resolving conflict situations within the community. This requires maintaining close relationships with neighborhood associations, business leaders, and law enforcement agencies to develop programs that boost student attendance and participation.
The role also entails facilitating professional development for district staff, including teacher aides and home-school assistants, to enhance their communication skills with multicultural families. The incumbent coordinates and hosts monthly meetings, oversees staff caseloads, and generates detailed reports on findings, actions, and outcomes. Additionally, the position involves coordinating parent training programs focused on conflict resolution and active involvement in school governance.
