Community Liaison Specialist

About the Role

This position serves as a vital liaison dedicated to supporting the school district's initiatives to improve student achievement. The core mission is to foster positive, collaborative relationships between the district, students, parents, the broader community, and criminal justice agencies.

The role operates with significant independence, reporting directly to the Coordinator of Office Parent Engagement. You will exercise wide leeway in developing work methods to initiate parent involvement in decision-making opportunities that address critical issues such as school environment and instruction. This is a dynamic position requiring the ability to navigate complex community landscapes and advocate for families on a daily basis.

Day in the Life

Your work will bridge the gap between home and school by implementing evidence-based strategies to increase parent engagement and deepen understanding of the curriculum, specialized education services, and Individual Education Plans (IEPs). You will act as a connector, linking students and families to essential personal, social, and educational services through a comprehensive community-wide referral system.

A significant portion of your time will be spent coordinating and facilitating parent training programs, conflict resolution workshops, and group activities. You will also provide professional development to district staff, enhancing their ability to communicate effectively with multicultural families. Additionally, you will maintain close relationships with neighborhood associations, community leaders, and law enforcement to improve student attendance and resolve conflict situations within the community.
