The Communications Intern is a position within the Mayor's Summer Youth Jobs Program, designed to provide local youth ages 16-20 with valuable work experience in City Departments while encouraging civic engagement. This role offers a unique opportunity to support the Mayor's Office and contribute to the City of Charleston's mission of serving its community.
You will work closely with the Communications Director and the Constituent Services Team to support communications strategies, public relations initiatives, and community engagement efforts. The day-to-day involves drafting media advisories and press releases, creating content for city social media accounts, and assisting with press and community events. You will also support the Constituent Services team with administrative tasks, including updating the city's knowledge base and assisting the public. This is a dynamic, part-time role where you may work in the office, in the field, or at off-site locations depending on project needs.
