Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for temporary faculty positions within the Department of Communication Studies. As part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, we are uniting Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, Mansfield, and Clearfield campuses to transform higher education in our region. This role is designed to fill classroom assignments for undergraduate Communication Studies courses as student enrollment and departmental needs arise.
Successful candidates will be included in a "pool" of individuals ready to teach introductory and upper-level courses in subfields such as interpersonal communication, organizational communication, leadership and public advocacy, and health communication. The position offers the opportunity to serve a multi-campus university, with locations varying based on specific departmental requirements at the time of appointment.
The Department of Communication Studies is dedicated to actively supporting and promoting the intellectual and personal growth of students, both inside and outside the classroom. We are committed to providing workshops, trainings, and programs that broaden the knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion within our campus community. Our goal is to ensure that all learning and living environments are welcoming and capable of serving all individuals.
Through "The Power of Three," our campuses honor their history while investing in today's challenges of accessibility, cost, and quality. We are building a powerful tomorrow by changing the trajectory of public education to meet economic and workforce development needs across Pennsylvania and beyond.
To be considered for this pool, applicants must submit a complete application including a cover letter, resume/CV, unofficial transcripts, and contact information for three professional references. Applications are accepted through October 2026.
The selection process is rigorous and collaborative. Finalists must demonstrate strong communication skills and successfully complete an interview process and/or teaching demonstration, as judged by the department faculty. A recommendation for hiring is required from a majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.
Offers of employment are conditional upon the successful completion of background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A. Applicants must complete the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police, and Justifacts portions prior to the start date, with remaining clearances returned within the first 90 days of employment.
