The Clinical Nurse serves as a Registered Professional Nurse dedicated to delivering safe, competent, and high-quality care. Grounded in nursing theory and research, this role focuses on a designated group of patients and their significant others, ensuring that every interaction reflects the highest standards of the profession.
At Mount Sinai, we are committed to the Relationship Centered Care (MSHRCC) model. This role is designed to foster therapeutic relationships built on caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening. Nurses are expected to role model these tenets through specific actions such as Admission Welcome, Bedside shift Reports, and Purposeful Hourly Rounding.
The Clinical Nurse acts as a vital collaborator within the interdisciplinary healthcare team. By integrating critical thinking and evidence-based practices, the nurse develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive plans of care. This includes educating patients and caregivers on health promotion, disease prevention, and transition of care, while ensuring that patient values and preferences guide every decision.
This position offers a pathway to advance from novice to expert. Clinical Nurses are encouraged to engage in lifelong learning, inquiry, and innovation. As a professional role model, the nurse may serve as a preceptor for new staff and students, participate in specialty practice councils, and contribute to the profession through professional organizations.
The role also involves operational leadership, where the nurse may act as a charge nurse, facilitate patient throughput, and manage resources effectively. By participating in quality improvement projects and peer review processes, the Clinical Nurse helps drive institutional excellence and safety.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our institution. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. Our collective bargaining unit is NYSNA-MSH.
