About the Role
This position serves as a vital component of the laboratory team, performing a comprehensive range of routine and complex procedures to ensure accurate patient care. From specimen processing and handling to the testing, calculation, and reporting of results, the role demands precision and adherence to strict quality control standards. The successful candidate will operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, troubleshoot equipment, and assist in the development of new protocols. This role also encompasses patient-oriented tasks, including phlebotomy, with a specific focus on accommodating the unique physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients across all age groups.

Work Environment
This is a full-time position scheduled for 5 days a week, with 8-hour shifts. The role requires flexibility to cross-train across various laboratory sections, including Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids, ensuring a versatile and resilient team capable of meeting dynamic healthcare demands.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circlePerform routine and complicated laboratory procedures including specimen processing and testing
- check_circleAssure that the laboratory's quality control program is properly followed
- check_circleProcess patient specimens including collection, handling, and distribution
- check_circleProvide notification and documentation of critical laboratory values
- check_circleParticipate in the evaluation, development, and implementation of new testing procedures

- check_circleUtilize the Laboratory Information System for data management
- check_circleOperate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment

Requirements
- verifiedBachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from accredited institution OR equivalent training meeting CLIA 42CFR493.1489
- verifiedCertification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS
- verifiedLouisiana State Licensure (if applicable)
- verifiedOne year approved clinical laboratory experience including rotations in Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids OR no experience for NAACLS accredited graduates
- verifiedBoard Certification or eligibility (must complete within 1 year of hire if new graduate, Louisiana excluded)
