The Clinical Coordinator serves as a vital resource and leader within the clinical area nursing unit, facilitating patient flow and coordinating activities and communication during assigned shifts. This role ensures that patient care is delivered efficiently, with a focus on being caring and courteous to all patients. The Coordinator acts as a bridge between patients, staff, healthcare providers, administration, and other disciplines, fostering a collaborative environment.
The position requires independent action to follow documented physician orders while practicing within the boundaries of Virginia nursing regulations. Daily practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics, national nursing standards, and VCUHS policies. The Coordinator organizes work with input from patients and families, utilizing sound clinical judgment to achieve specific outcomes. Supervisory responsibilities include delegating and overseeing RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, and Unit Secretaries to ensure seamless unit operations.
This position operates on a Monday through Thursday evening schedule, consisting of four 10-hour shifts from 1pm to 11pm. The role is set in a fast-paced environment that may be noisy and requires the ability to handle multiple priorities and frequent change. Physical demands include prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, and lifting 50-100 lbs. Staff may also be exposed to potentially hazardous and infectious substances. The role involves frequent and intense customer interactions, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to shifting unit requirements and shift rotations as needed.

Academic Health Care experience. Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice. Certification in specialty area. Completion of a Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Nursing from an accredited program.
