As a Driver for FedEx Freight, you will be the vital link between our Service Centers and our customers. Your primary mission is to safely pick up and deliver freight while actively supporting our sales goals by identifying opportunities to grow our business relationships. This role is designed for those who take pride in operating heavy equipment and delivering exceptional service on the road.
Your shift involves operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. You will perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight using appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and rope. The job requires hands-on freight handling with motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, and may involve recouping or repairing damaged goods.
Communication is key throughout your day. You will follow dispatch instructions, report delays or equipment issues, and interact directly with customers to confirm delivery needs. Beyond logistics, you will represent the brand by demonstrating strong customer service, soliciting additional business, and providing leads for potential new opportunities. Depending on operational needs, you may also perform duties typically associated with road drivers or dock employees.
You will drive on all types of roads in all weather conditions. The role involves exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. The position requires the ability to sit for extended periods, as well as the physical capacity to lift or carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of the truck.
To apply, candidates must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restrictions are permitted. Applicants must have one year of experience within the last three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. A satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations are mandatory.
Note: The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance to operate a commercial motor vehicle.
