As a Driver for FedEx Freight, you will serve as the vital link between our Service Centers and our customers. Your primary mission is to safely pick up and deliver freight while actively supporting our sales goals. This position goes beyond simple transportation; you are a representative of our brand, responsible for building relationships with customers, identifying opportunities for additional business, and ensuring a seamless logistics experience from start to finish.
In this role, you will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. Your day involves a dynamic mix of driving, freight handling, and customer interaction. You will perform daily safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight using various tools and equipment. Beyond the road, you may be called upon to perform duties as a dock employee, utilizing motorized and manual equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks to move cargo. You will also handle documentation, comply with hazardous material regulations, and manage cash transactions for freight charges as needed.
Communication is key to your success. You will coordinate closely with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues, while also engaging directly with customers to determine their specific needs. Whether you are chaining tires in winter conditions or navigating long combination vehicles in specific states, you will work independently or as part of a team to meet operational demands.
Candidates must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. Automatic transmission restrictions are permitted. Applicants must have one year of experience within the most recent three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. A satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations are mandatory.
Please note that the Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance to operate a commercial motor vehicle. For those operating Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs) in specific states, additional qualification and certification standards apply.
