About the Role

The Chief of Staff serves as the operational and clinical anchor of the hospital, balancing the dual mandate of delivering world-class veterinary care and driving business performance. This role is designed to advocate for pets and their quality of life while fostering long-term, trusting relationships with clients. By partnering with the Practice Manager and Medical Director, the Chief of Staff ensures a safe, engaging environment where the veterinary medical team can thrive.

The position requires a unique blend of clinical expertise and leadership acumen. On average, the role splits time between 70-80% hands-on veterinary duties and 20-30% leadership responsibilities. The Chief of Staff leads by example, mentoring associate veterinarians, optimizing hospital efficiency, and ensuring compliance with Banfield's brand standards and protocols. This is a pivotal role for those passionate about improving the human-pet bond while managing the strategic growth of the hospital.

Our Culture and Mission

At Banfield Pet Hospital, we are guided by the Five Principles of Mars, Inc., which shape our daily operations and interactions:

  • Quality: The consumer is our boss; quality is our work.
  • Responsibility: We demand total responsibility from ourselves and support the responsibility of others.
  • Mutuality: A shared benefit will endure.
  • Efficiency: We use resources to the full and waste nothing.
  • Freedom: We need profit to remain free to shape our future.

We are a drug-free, smoke-free, equal opportunity employer that strongly values the uniqueness of all individuals. We promote a work environment where diversity is embraced, ensuring that all qualified applicants receive consideration without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, or disability status.

Hiring Process

Candidates must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree and possess a veterinary license in good standing. Those selected will be required to obtain state controlled substance and federal DEA registration within three months of employment. The role involves a dynamic schedule that may require working weekends and evenings to meet client needs, with occasional travel to assist other area hospitals or for vendor visits.
