About The Centers

At The Centers, meaningful work is grounded in a culture where people feel valued. As a 2026 USA TODAY Top Workplaces winner, the organization is nationally recognized based entirely on employee feedback for trust, purpose, and care. We are dedicated to building a comprehensive behavioral health system of care that serves the Greater Cleveland community, supporting over 20,000 individuals annually with judgment-free, trauma-informed services.

About the Role

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a senior executive position reporting directly to the President & CEO, serving as the strategic architect of our clinical future. This role is pivotal in advancing The Centers' 2035 vision, providing the medical leadership and clinical direction necessary to integrate physical, mental, and behavioral health across our continuum of care.

You will drive medical excellence and ensure the highest standards of clinical care delivery while leading our medical and nursing teams. Working hand-in-hand with the Chief Program Officer, CFO, and COO, you will ensure the seamless integration of medical services from prevention and early intervention through crisis response and inpatient treatment. This position exercises high decision-making authority, developing clinical strategies that align with our organizational goals while championing our core values of Belonging, Purpose, Bravery, Gratitude & Growth, and We Can & We Will.

Our Culture & Values

The CMO is expected to model and reinforce a culture of psychological safety and belonging. We believe in:

  • Belonging: Creating inclusive environments where all team members and those we serve feel valued, seen, and safe.
  • Purpose: Connecting daily clinical work to our mission of healing, teaching, and inspiring.
  • Bravery: Taking courageous action to innovate, challenge assumptions, and advocate for comprehensive care.
  • Gratitude & Growth: Recognizing effort, seeking feedback, and investing in development with humility.
  • We Can & We Will: Taking ownership, persisting through setbacks, and embodying optimism.

Hiring Process & Application

We are seeking a visionary leader to join our executive team. The interview process is designed to assess both clinical expertise and cultural fit. Selected candidates will engage in a series of conversations with the executive leadership team and the Board of Directors to discuss strategic vision, operational challenges, and organizational culture. We prioritize transparency and collaboration throughout the selection journey.

Equal Opportunity Employer

The Centers is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, disability status, or veteran status. We are committed to fostering a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
