The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine stands at a pivotal moment, marked by significant opportunity to shape a modern, collaborative, academically strong, and clinically impactful future. Founded in 1903, the Department has a strong history of involvement in undergraduate, medical, and postgraduate education, pathology service, and the acquisition of new knowledge related to human disease.
The next Chair will bring an expansive vision for the future of pathology and lab medicine. This role is designed to drive the strategic direction of the department, steward excellence across clinical, research, and educational missions, and lead initiatives to recruit and retain top-tier faculty. Key opportunities include advancing precision medicine and hematopathology capabilities, expanding research enterprises aligned with future NCI and Alzheimer's Disease Research Center designation goals, and deepening clinical partnerships to enhance service integration.
In addition to being appointed the Chief of Pathology for UC Health, the Chair will be an integral leader in the College of Medicine, functioning within a system context. The role involves expanding high-impact clinical programs, rebuilding research infrastructure, and strengthening departmental culture to support faculty engagement and retention. The Chair will collaborate with UC Health, UC Physicians, the VA Medical Center, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center to ensure alignment with broader strategic goals.
