We invite you to join the multidisciplinary faculty of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, Division of Family and Community Medicine, within the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah. Founded in 1970, our department is one of the oldest and most established family medicine departments in the country. Currently ranked #2 in NIH funding in the 2024 Blueridge Report, we are dedicated to optimizing quality of life through scholarship that advances health and wellbeing in homes, workplaces, and communities.
Our department is composed of two divisions: Family and Community Medicine and Public Health. The Division of Family and Community Medicine includes primary care and urgent care services, spanning 11 clinics across 5 counties. We employ over 200 clinicians and serve more than 574,600 patients annually. This structure provides a rich environment for scholarship and collaboration, supported by pre-award and post-award services, as well as central administrative research staff.
We are revitalizing our Practice Based Research Network (PBRN), linking primary care clinicians and practices together to answer community-based healthcare questions and translate research findings into practice. Through the PBRN, we engage clinicians in quality improvement activities and generate evidence in primary care practice to improve the health of all Americans. We are committed to fostering a collaborative and innovative research culture where your contributions can make a significant difference in primary care.
This open-track, open-rank position offers an exciting opportunity to provide leadership in integrating research into patient care. You will join a dynamic faculty committed to excellence in patient care, education, scholarship, and research. The role is primarily dedicated to conducting extramurally-funded research and PBRN development, with opportunities for involvement in education, mentoring, administration/service, and clinical care (if applicable).
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with teams of highly successful researchers within the department and the University of Utah Health Sciences. This includes the newly launched Integrating Medicine and Policy to Achieve Healthcare Transformation (IMPACT) program, the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, the Utah Genome Project/Precision Medicine, the Cardiovascular Research Center, and the Diabetes-Metabolism Research Center. Additional collaborative opportunities exist across the University of Utah, including departments of psychology, sociology, business, social work, engineering, anthropology, and economics.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong background and passion for translational and health services research relevant to primary care practice. You will work with a variety of healthcare professionals and researchers, requiring excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills. The position offers a unique blend of research leadership, grant writing, and mentoring within a vibrant academic community.
