The Department Chair serves as the strategic leader for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Department, responsible for coordinating all departmental activities while maintaining a strong instructional presence. This role is designed to balance administrative oversight with active teaching, ensuring the program remains rigorous, equitable, and aligned with the College's Mission, Vision, Values, and RISE Statement.
In this position, you will foster a safe and secure campus environment while championing equity across all aspects of the department. The Chair acts as the primary liaison between the department, the Executive Leadership Team, Human Resources, and external stakeholders, including SACSCOC, the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), and program accreditors. You will ensure that curriculum remains relevant and meets state standards, oversee Student Learning Outcomes assessment, and manage departmental budgets and resource procurement.
A unique aspect of this role is the hybrid nature of the work. The Chair is expected to maintain a teaching load of 12 to 14 combined class/lab contact hours per week. This instructional commitment provides the necessary release time to fulfill leadership duties, serve on campus committees, and advise students. During accreditation self-study or re-accreditation periods, contact hours may be reduced by 3 to 4 hours to accommodate these critical administrative tasks.
Work model: On-site
