The Correctional Managed Care team is dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Our mission is to provide compassionate, high-quality care in secure environments while maintaining the safety and dignity of every patient.
As a Medication Aide, you will serve as a vital link in the patient care continuum, performing technical duties that support the general health and well-being of individuals in correctional and juvenile detention facilities. You will work alongside professional nursing staff to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment where patients receive essential hygiene, nutrition, and medication management.
Your day will involve a blend of clinical support and operational responsibility. You will collect and document vital signs, perform point-of-care testing, and manage patient specimens. A significant portion of your role focuses on direct patient care, including assisting with personal hygiene, wound care, mobility, and feeding. You will also be responsible for the secure distribution and documentation of medications in compliance with Texas Administrative Code standards, ensuring strict adherence to drug room security protocols.
Working in this unique environment requires adaptability and resilience. You may be assigned to multiple facilities, working shifts that include nights and weekends. The role demands the ability to cope with complex situations, including interactions with patients who may be disoriented or combative, while maintaining strict confidentiality and professional relationships with security personnel.
Candidates must possess a current Texas Certified Medication Aide permit and a high school diploma or GED equivalent. All applicants are subject to a mandatory security clearance and pre-employment drug testing.
