The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) within the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) is dedicated to enforcing criminal law to detect and deter crime within the state's correctional facilities. This position serves as a critical enforcement arm within the CDOC, utilizing systematic investigative techniques to plan and conduct criminal and administrative investigations. As an OIG Investigator, you will operate as a lead investigator, a support investigator, and an independent investigator depending on the situation. Your day-to-day work involves investigating offender and employee misconduct, including violations of state statutes, federal laws, and administrative regulations such as Title VII discrimination, sexual harassment, and use of force allegations.
You will coordinate facility drug interdictions, supervise assigned staff, and conduct surveillance or participate in undercover operations. The role requires interviewing suspects, victims, and witnesses, as well as analyzing complaints to determine the presence of essential elements constituting a crime. You will prepare legal documentation, including search and arrest affidavits, secure warrants, and testify in administrative and personnel hearings. Additionally, you may lead field investigations, direct tasks for other personnel, and utilize K9 resources for contraband detection.

This position is exclusively open to Colorado state residents. Selected applicants must permanently reside within a one-hour drive time of the selected location. The role requires shift work and a flexible schedule, with the ability to travel extensively for emergency situations or team operations. The position is on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round, covering any correctional facility in the State of Colorado.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in drug investigations within a corrections organization, professional canine handling in a corrections, law enforcement, or military organization for contraband identification, gang-related investigations, intelligence gathering or intelligence-led policing, conducting multi-agency investigations, institutional or detentions investigations, conducting professional standards or internal affairs investigations, and bilingualism.
