About the Team

TeamQRT Group has been delivering Thomas Built School Buses since 1980. As a specialized OTR bus transport company, we operate differently than traditional driveaway firms. Our core mission relies on a unique group driving model where drivers travel in convoys of 3–5 vehicles, with one driver per bus, to deliver new school buses from our High Point, NC hub to locations across the U.S. and Canada.

About the Role

This is an Independent Contractor (1099) position focused on transporting new school buses over-the-road. You will not be dispatched; instead, you choose when you want to drive with us. The role requires you to join a convoy, check in with a Lead Driver before departure, and ensure the condition of the vehicle is maintained throughout the trip.

A typical day involves picking up a bus in High Point, NC, and driving it to a customer's delivery location. After completing the delivery, the group travels back to the pick-up location together. While the position is OTR and may require staying on the road for multiple days, the group dynamic ensures you are never alone on the highway. To remain active, drivers are required to complete at least one trip per month.

Benefits & Compensation

We provide a comprehensive support package for our independent contractors. Transportation is arranged from the drop-off location back to High Point, NC, upon delivery. Additionally, lodging and fuel costs are covered while you are active on a trip.

Drivers are paid per mile, with a starting rate of $0.38/mile for the drive-back leg and $0.32/mile for the fly-back leg. Drivers delivering to Canada earn an additional $0.02 per mile plus a $125 bonus at the end of the trip. Some trips to South Carolina are paid at a flat rate. We also offer same-day pay if all paperwork is accurate, submitted on time, and no accidents or damages occur. Referral bonuses and clean inspection bonuses are available to qualified drivers.

Hiring Process

This is an in-person opportunity. All drivers must attend an onboarding session in High Point, NC. The process includes a local road test and a review of your driving history. Applicants with a completed SAP program must be at least 7 years clear of completion to be considered. Any accidents in the last 3 years must be supported with an accident report before the application can be processed.

Culture & Requirements

We value professionalism and courtesy at all times. Drivers must be comfortable working in a team setting, sharing workload and responsibilities with other drivers in the convoy. You will be responsible for keeping accurate daily DOT Driver Logs using the MOTIVE app (paper logs are not accepted) and adhering to DOT Hours of Service rules.

To succeed in this role, you must be self-sufficient and prepared for the road. Required items for trips include a cell phone, a walkie-talkie (available for purchase from our office), screwdrivers, an adjustable crescent wrench, a 1/2-inch wrench, and blue painters tape.
