The CDL A Sonic Assistant is a vital field support role within Environmental Works, designed to empower the Lead Driller in executing complex environmental drilling operations. This position exists to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of sonic drilling, Geoprobe/direct-push drilling, and related environmental field services. As a key member of the field crew, you will work cooperatively with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to maintain high standards of safety and operational excellence.
Your day will be dynamic and physically active, primarily performed in uncontrolled outdoor environments ranging from confined spaces to open sites. You will assist in the setup and breakdown of drilling sites, managing hoses, rods, and tooling while ensuring safe access around the work area. A significant portion of your time involves operating company vehicles requiring a Class A CDL to transport equipment and personnel to project locations, adhering strictly to DOT regulations.
You will support the Lead Driller in performing strenuous physical labor, including lifting, bending, and handling heavy equipment, as well as collecting and documenting soil and groundwater samples. The role requires a strong focus on equipment care, performing routine inspections and maintenance on drilling rigs, pumps, and trailers. You will also be responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work site, documenting daily activities, and reporting any safety incidents or equipment issues immediately.
This position operates in diverse and often challenging conditions. You will work outdoors in all weather conditions, facing exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying temperatures. The role demands flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as project needs require. Frequent out-of-town and overnight travel is an essential part of the job, requiring you to adapt to varying site and schedule conditions.
Candidates must possess a valid Class A CDL and a High School Diploma or GED. The selection process focuses on verifying your ability to meet company insurability and DOT requirements, including medical certification. We look for individuals with prior experience in construction, environmental field services, or equipment operation who demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and mechanical aptitude.
